Why is the Consultation with your client so important?
A GUIDE FOR PERMANENT MAKEUP PROFESSIONALS
Blog by Dr. Cardona
Remember that in order for the final result to be successful, it is required that all factors that involve the procedure are correctly stated, developed and fulfilled: The Consultation, Color Selection, Design and Technique.
Several people have recently contacted me with problems related to the outcome of their procedures and analyzing particular situations, it is very possible that these problems could have been avoided by improving the initial phase of the procedure: The Consultation. That’s why I have decided to dedicate the next few weeks to discuss this important issue, which guarantees the perfection of your procedures.
During the consultation it is important to establish a very good communication with the client, this will provide confidence, tranquility and collaboration on her behalf. You should be kind, listen to the person, speak confidently, calmly, clearly inform, slowly (remember your are not in a rush), make the client feel like they are VIP’s, either because she was recommended by a friend, or because she found your info on social media or through an advertisement. It is important to make her feel that she will be taken care of in a special way.
A formal presentation should be given, explaining what your training and experience is. I suggest that you organize a portfolio with all the available information and photographs of the procedures you have done previously, choosing cases representative of each procedure that you perform. This will make your consultation easier and give your client the confidence they need.
Once the initial approximation is done, the corresponding forms should be filled out, asking for all identification data, medical history, allergies, ESPECIALLY SOME OF THE COMPONENTS OF THE PIGMENTS, anesthetics or healing cream that you use, etc. in order to identify any condition that contraindicates the procedure. It is advisable to offer an allergy test, which if he or she accepts it, must be done 15 days prior to the procedure and paid by the client as something additional to the procedure itself (I will explain in detail in a later blog).
Explain to your client what the procedure is, what the risks are and what kind of materials you use. I advise you also take the time to explain the whole process of healing and when the client will see the final result.
The forms with client information, procedure and informed consent are something that are often taken lightly. So much so that sometimes the client fills the information and the technician who will perform the procedure, does not review or information, maybe because the client forgot some details, and many time did not sign the form. This will create problems further along the way. PLEASE READ MY PREVIOUS BLOG ON FORMS FOR YOUR CONSULTATION.
Once your client fills the forms and all the information, you must review it and discuss with her possible contraindications to the procedure. It is important that everything is very clear.
Clearly state what your client wants and how they want the final result to look. Determine the shape of her face, the color of her skin, her hair, see the makeup she's wearing. Stop there a little to listen, analyze and define what effect you are going to make in order to correctly select the technique and the needles you are going to use.
Now it is time to take photos. The photographs are taken with the aim of keeping a record of all the patients, to take control of each procedure's’ outcome and thus to be able to establish a final result and additionally, they serve to show your work to potential clients. DO NOT perform any procedures if you have not previously taken the photograph.
As I said initially, in the next blogs I will dwell in detail on each aspect of the consultation. I hope this helps you improve the relationship with their customers and to achieve better results.
THANK YOU
I hope you will take this into consideration.
